H4D | Work Stream 5

WS 5 enables the discussion of public and private stakeholders on industrial decarbonization and the adoption of clean hydrogen.

By investing in clean hydrogen technologies, EMDCs can decarbonize hard-to-abate sectors such as heavy industry, transportation, and agriculture, thereby enhancing their competitiveness and creating green jobs. Moreover, clean hydrogen offers new export opportunities in green derivatives like ammonia and e-fuels, fostering economic resilience. However, substantial financial investments and supportive policies are required to bridge the gap between production costs and market competitiveness, ensuring that clean hydrogen can effectively replace conventional energy sources.

The World Bank and other multilateral institutions are actively supporting these efforts by providing financial de-risking instruments and facilitating the development of green hydrogen infrastructure in various EMDCs.
