Mexico City Open Database Improves Transit Efficiency, Helps Commuters
November 07 2013

Mexico City residents make 32 million vehicle trips a day, of which over 20 million are via public transport.  But up until now, there has been no integrated transportation map of Mexico City.

Starting in November 2012, the World Bank’s Latin America and the Caribbean Region, with support from ESMAP, worked with Mexico City’s transit authority to build a consolidated open online repository of public transportation data.

This has helped authorities determine where best to add services and plan for the future, while developing new applications such as a real-time tracking tool that informs users of disruptions in the system and provides route change options.
