Low Carbon Development

ESMAP is supporting seven countries to identify greenhouse gas mitigation potential, assess the incremental costs and benefits of lower-carbon growth pathways; examine financing sources and mechanisms to address the additional costs of low-carbon growth and characterize the appropriate policy support; and identify projects and programs that contribute to growth and development goals while curbing increases in GHG emissions.

ESMAP is partnered with the World Bank Institute and the CLEAN Network to help ensure the effective, broad and timely sharing of knowledge, analytical approaches and models/tools that have accumulated through implementation of the Low Carbon Development studies in Brazil, China, India, Indonesia, Mexico, Poland and South Africa since 2007. This knowledge program aims to raise awareness with and help increase the capacity of low- and middle-income developing countries to undertake similar assessments.
