Established in 1983, the Energy Sector Management Assistance Program (ESMAP) is a global, multidonor technical assistance trust fund administered by the World Bank and cosponsored by 13 official bilateral donors.
Starting in Fiscal Year 2009, ESMAP transitioned to a five-year strategic business plan cycle that facilitates longer-term strategic partnerships. The current strategic business plan reinforces ESMAP’s commitment to its client countries on energy security and energy poverty, including a strong focus on social dimensions of energy challenges.
The ESMAP Unit, situated within the Sustainable Energy Department (SEG) of the World Bank, is responsible for the day-to-day management of the program.
